Applying action research to co-create an urban mural with the youth: the case of “Welcome (W)all – MURO” in Alta de Lisboa
P&D Seminar Ruth Segers
In this seminar I will expatiate on my findings with action research in a socio-economic disadvantaged neighbourhood in the north of Lisbon, Alta de Lisboa. The aim of this research is to investigate how this co-creation process effects interpersonal relations of solidarity. For the purpose of this action research I combine ethnography as a methodology with co-creative painting.
During the seminar I will explain how, in the preliminary participative process leading to the implementation of the mural, I have been scanning and testing the boundaries of participation possibilities. I will show how I have been devising and implementing workshops with the youth. Concurrently I will explain how I approached the relations between the local youth organization, the local district administration, the local school and local youths and the existing power relations.
